The Society was founded in 1934 and is now believed to be the oldest active fishkeeping club in the U.K. At the present time we have about seventy members of whom about forty regularly attend our monthly meetings. We are members of the Federation of British Aquatic Societies.
Next Meeting
11th July
Mick Minns - Discus
A real treat in store for the Discus lovers among you. Mick Minns the managing editor of Discus World and a leading lifgt in the UK Discus scene came down to one of our meetings a couple of months ago to check out our venue and facilities and when he talks to us in July he will hasve some Discus on show. He was impressed by the turnout so don't dissappoint him by going on holiday.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find speakers and while Roger does a sterling job we have not been able to confirm a program for 2010. Members will be kept up to date by newsletter and I will (day job permitting) try to find time to keep this site updated - though so far this year it has been difficult to find the time and energy to do so.
We hold monthly meetings with talks and slideshows, run annual pond and home aquaria
competitions. We ran an annual exhibition for many years but are now not very active in the show world. We did however take
part a few years ago in an exhibition at Alexandra Palace. We run coach trips to places of interest to our
members in the U.K. and about once every eighteen months travel to Europe for a few days or even a week. In recent years we have
been to Amsterdam, Cologne and Normandy and The Hague.
